Morgan B. Williams

Morgan B. Williams ( born September 17, 1831 in Carmarthenshire, Wales, † October 13, 1903 in Wilkes -Barre, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1897 and 1899 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Morgan Williams attended the public schools of his home. In 1856 he moved to Australia in August 1861, he returned to his Welsh homeland. In March 1862 he settled in Scranton (Pennsylvania), where he worked in the coal mines. Since 1865 he lived in Wilkes - Barre. For 14 years he was overseer ( Superintendent ) from Lehigh & Wilkes -Barre Coal Co. He was twelve years in the local city council and the school committee. Politically, he joined the Republican Party. In 1884 he was a member of the Senate of Pennsylvania. He was also a member of a commission of his State of the World's Fair in Chicago.

In the congressional elections of 1896, Williams was in the twelfth electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John Leisenring on March 4, 1897. Since he has not been confirmed in 1898, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1899. This was marked by the events of the Spanish - American War of 1898.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Morgan Williams worked in the coal industry. He was Vice President and Manager of the company Red Ash Coal Co.. He died on October 13, 1903 in Wilkes - Barre.
