John Leisenring

John Leisenring ( born June 3, 1853 in Ashton, Carbon County, Pennsylvania, † January 19, 1901 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Leisenring attended the public schools of his home, the Schwartz's Academy in Bethlehem and two other schools in New Jersey. He was later construction and mining engineer. He went into the coal, iron and timber business and was also active in the banking industry. In 1885 he moved to Upper Lehigh. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. In the years 1894 and 1895 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania.

In the congressional elections of 1894 Leisenring was in the twelfth electoral district of his state in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrats William Henry Hines on March 4, 1895. Since he resigned in 1896 to further candidacy, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1897. In 1896 he was a delegate part of the Republican convention for Pennsylvania.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives John Leisenring took his previous activities on again. He also became president of the company 's Upper Lehigh Coal Co. He died on 19 January 1901 in Philadelphia and was buried in Mauch Chunk.
