Stara Morawa

Stara Morawa ( German: Altmohrau, also: Old Mohrau ) is a village in the powiat Kłodzki in the Province of Lower Silesia in Poland. It belongs to the urban and rural community Stronie Śląskie, of which it is located three kilometers south of the center.

Geography

Stara Morawa is located on the upper carrot ( Morawka ), a left tributary of the Biele, between the mountains and the Śnieżnik Biel Mountains. Neighboring towns are Stronie Śląskie in the north, Młynowiec in the northeast, and Nowa Morawa Bolesławów in the south, Kletno in the southwest and Sienna in the West.

History

Mohrau belonged in 1346 to rule Karpenstein and probably fell in the 15th century desolate. 1588 was re-established on deforested landesherrlichem Forstgrund and named after conditioning the southern colony Neumohrau 1596 as Altmohrau. It belonged to the county of Glatz and was in the possession of the Bohemian chamber. This sold it in 1684 along with other chamber villages in the district of Landeck Glatzer Governor Michael Wenzel von Althann the dominion side mountain formed from the acquired village communities, coupled with the Altmohrau remained until 1945. 1939 counted 257 inhabitants. As a result of World War II Altmohrau fell to Poland and was renamed in Stara Morawa. The number of inhabitants declined significantly. In the years 1975-1998 Stara Morawa was part of the Voivodeship Wałbrzych. Through the promotion of tourism since the political changes of 1989, the population is increasing.

Attractions

  • North of the village is the Mohretalsperre, which was built as a retention basin for flood protection.
  • A former lime kiln serves as an exhibition space.
