Staropramen Brewery

Staropramen is a beer brand and the second largest Czech brewery.

History

The brewery was founded in 1869 in Prague, where a modern brewing facility was built after the plans of engineer Gustav Noback. ( " Old source " literally) registered since 1871 beer was brewed and sold in 1911, the brand name " Staropramen " was. František Tichý, an artist of the Czech avant-garde, designed the logo for the brewery. After the Second World War, the factory was seized and nationalized in 1989 converted after the collapse of the Eastern bloc with foreign investment capital to a corporation.

From 1993, the British group Bass was the majority shareholder with 80 percent. Bass was itself taken over by InBev in 2000. In December 2009, AB InBev sold parts of the brewery business in Central and Eastern Europe at the private equity firm CVC Capital Partners, which called the resulting group StarBev. In some countries, including Germany, to AB InBev has reserved the right to brew Staropramen itself and may expel. 2012 StarBev in turn was taken over by the North American brewer Molson Coors.

As early as 1884 Staropramen exported to the United States after the Second World War, the export business could be taken up again until the early 1950s due to lack of raw materials. The Staropramen export company is now the third largest Czech beer exporter who sells its main brand in 37 countries, mainly the United States and the European Union.
