Starý Plzenec

Stary Plzenec ( German Altpilsen ) is a city in Okres Plzeň -město, Czech Republic. It is located eleven kilometers southeast of the center of Plzen, at the Úslava.

Geography

The place is located in 343 m above sea level. M. on the left bank of the Úslava. Mountain the city is the 560 m high cone of Radyně with the ruins of the castle Radyně ( Karlskrone ) in the southwest. North of town, the 431 m high Hurka, on which the remains of the early medieval castle Pilsen are rising.

To the north the route of the motorway D 5 / Europe 50 road runs through the village leads the railway line from Pilsen to Budweis.

Neighboring towns are Letkov in the north, Tymákov in the northeast, Sedlec and Lhůta in the east, and Šťáhlavy Losiná in the south, and Černice Bručná in the west and Koterov in the northwest.

History

The first written record dates from Thietmar of Merseburg from the year 976 ( ad Proelium Pilisin ), based on which Boleslav II under the castle struck a Bavarian army. The settlement with the castle Pilsen, the most important early medieval economic and administrative center of the Přemyslids in West Bohemia, was established in the 10th century at the junction of highway from Prague to Regensburg on the Úslava. In the 13th century a failed attempt at a high Medieval archaeological foundation is occupied. Some years later the city New Pilsen then was created in 1295 around 10 kilometers downstream of the Úslava. The settlement was then called Old Pilsen ( 1333: Antiqua Pilzna, 1442 w Starem Plzenczy ). 1266 had the settlement eight churches that were placed under the patronage of the monastery Chotěšov.

With the city's founding of Pilsen Altpilsen lost its meaning. 1361 Charles IV had the castle built Radyně. Until the 15th century, the city was the Bohemian crown and was then awarded to various noble families. In the 18th century the ancient importance and the ancient privileges of Plzenec no longer remained much and the place fell down to the village. It was not until 1845 Stary Plzenec was raised again to market towns and 1902 to the city.

1871 was a brewery that has been converted into a factory of sparkling wines Bohemia in 1964. The city belonged to 31 December 2006 Okres Plzeň- jih.

Economy

Stary Plzenec is the seat of the largest wine and sparkling Czech Republic. The majority of shares of the company Bohemia Sekt keeps the Henkell & Söhnlein KG since 1999. 2005, the Bohemia Sekt with the acquisition of brands Pražská Vodka, Nordic and Silver Ice also Czech market leader for vodka.
