Stefan Kisielewski

Stefan Kisielewski ( born March 7, 1911 in Warsaw, † September 27, 1991 ibid ) was a Polish composer, music critic, writer and journalist.

Kisielewski studied 1934-1937 at the Warsaw Conservatory piano with Jerzy Lefeld and composition with Kazimierz Sikorski at the Warsaw University and Polish literature and philosophy. 1938-39 he completed his musical studies in Paris.

In 1939 he became musical director of the Warsaw broadcasting. After the German occupation, he worked as a piano accompanist and music teacher. His early compositions were largely lost during the Warsaw Uprising.

From 1945 to 1949 he taught harmony, counterpoint and orchestration at the National Music Academy of Krakow. In 1945 he founded the journal Ruch Muzyczny whose editor, he was until 1948. Between 1965 and 1968 he was editor of the arts and film magazine Syncopation.

Kisielewski wrote several fantastic novels and detective stories and music critical and political essays. He composed three ballets, two symphonies, a concerto for chamber orchestra, numerous works for chamber orchestra, choral works, songs, film and radio music.
