Stefan Lippe

Stefan Lippe ( born October 11, 1955 in Mannheim ) is a German insurance manager. From February 2009 to January 2012 he was CEO of Swiss Re.

Career

Lip studied at the University of Mannheim mathematics and business administration and a doctorate in 1982 in the context of working as a research assistant to the chair of insurance science. For his dissertation, he was awarded the prize of Kurt Hamann foundation.

In October 1983, he joined the Bavarian Re, a subsidiary of Swiss Reinsurance Company. In 1986 he became head of the department " underwriting " non- proportional business. In 1988 he was appointed as a deputy member of the Executive Committee. In 1991, he assumed overall responsibility for the company's activities in the German-speaking and was admitted as a full member. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Bavarian Re in 1995 and appointed to the extended Board of Swiss Re as head of the Bavarian Re Group in 1993. In 2001 he took over the management of the Property & Casualty Business Group and was elected to the Board of Swiss Re. In September 2008, he was appointed Chief Operating Officer and Deputy CEO. On 12 February 2009 he was in a crisis situation, following the dismissal of Jacques Aigrain, appointed President of the Executive Board.

During his tenure has been criticized for lip in the media and in scientific studies repeatedly as overpaid, especially in rankings, which compared the performance with the salary.

In December 2011 his resignation was surprisingly announced after three years in office. He was succeeded by Mr Liès, which always stood on February 1 2012 within the company in a tense relationship with lip.
