Stefan Potocki

Stefan Potocki (* 1624, † May 19, 1648 ) was a Polish nobleman, Starosta of Nizhyn and military leader.

Biography

Stefan Potocki came from the Polish magnate Potocki family and was the son of Hetman Mikołaj Potocki [Note 1] and his wife Sophia Firlej.

Stefan Potocki commanded the Polish-Lithuanian forces at the Battle of Schowti Vody at the beginning of the Khmelnytsky Uprising against the allied troops of the Zaporozhian Cossacks under Bohdan Khmelnytsky and the Crimean Tatars under Tuhaj Bey. He died of gangrene due to severe gunshot wound to his left hand, three days after he fell in battle in today's Schowti Vody (Ukraine ) in Tatar captivity, on May 19, 1648th
