Steindorf am Ossiacher See

Faaker Lake is a municipality with 3696 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Feldkirchen in Carinthia in Austria.

Geography

Geographical location

The municipality is situated on the northern shore of Lake Ossiach, about 8 km from Feldkirchen. The territory extends the Ossiachberg uphill to the ridge the Gerlitz.

History

The range of Tiffen was inhabited around 500 BC by the Celts. From the Roman period are two Jupiter - votive altars that are now walled up in the castle long in Feldkirchen. Tiffen was first documented in 1050-1065, the town of Stone Village in 1263 as " Steyndorf ". The Church in Stone Village was built in 1401 and later rebuilt in the Gothic style.

Construction of the Crown Prince Rudolf -Bahn (today Ossiachersee traverse the Southern Railway ) in 1865 marked the beginning of tourism in the Ossiach that completely changed the traditional agricultural structure of the area during the 20th century.

The municipality stone village had in 1850 constituted by the very extensive municipal area was the local church Glanhofen separated in 1894 with four cadastral and renamed Ossiach. The community name of stone village received the 1986 Supplement " on Ossiach ".

Population

According to the 2001 census, the municipality has stone village 3,583 inhabitants, of which 95.6 % Austria, 1.5% German and 1.0 % Bosnian citizen. 61.9 % of the population are Roman Catholic, 28.9 % Protestant, and 0.8 % for the Orthodox Church, 0.5% are Muslim faith. 5.4% are non-denominational.

Culture and sights

  • The stone house: The most important attraction in the municipality Faaker lake is certainly the so-called ' stone house' in stone village of architect Günther Domenig, the already exhibitions at the Museum of Applied Arts (Vienna) and the Museum of Modern Art in New York were dedicated.
  • Parish church of St. James the Elder: The parish church is located in Tiffen
  • Birthplace of artist Switbert Lobisser: the Birthplace is located in Tiffen
  • Evangelical Church Tschöran: In Tschöran near ground village there is a Toleranzbethaus from 1803, rebuilt early 20th century and added to the church tower
  • Bleistätter Moor: The 700 -acre ' Bleistätter Moor ' (in short: " Instead of lead " ) was formerly covered by Ossiach, who once reached almost to Feldkirchen up. It is a nature reserve and recreation area today.

Economy and infrastructure

The municipality has Gerlitze the ski summer and winter tourism, Thanks to its location along the Ossiach and their share of the main economic activity. The blue shield due to the Steinsdorfer coat of arms, which was awarded to the community on June 10, 1977 refers to the location on the third largest lake in Carinthia, the golden Dreienberg alludes to the first syllable of the word stone village. The golden catfish is a parallel to the three trouts the opposite Ossiach; this fish is in the eastern part of the lake frequently.
