Steinway Musical Instruments, Inc. (stock code on the NYSE: LVB) is a holding company of musical instrument manufacturers.

As a result of acquisitions and corporate mergers, the company acquired a variety of musical instruments brands and production facilities. Its members are now pavers of wings, pianos, wind instruments, string instruments and percussion instruments.

The company sells its products through a worldwide network of dealers to professional musicians and institutions, amateurs, students, and also to orchestras and educational institutions. This is among dozens of brand names such as Steinway & Sons pianos, Bach Stradivarius trumpets, CG Conn horns, Leblanc clarinets, King trombones, Ludwig snare drums and Selmer Paris saxophones.

It employs a workforce of approximately 1,700 employees and operates 11 manufacturing facilities in the United States and Europe.

History

  • May 1995: Selmer Industries buys Steinway Musical Properties, parent company of the piano maker Steinway & Sons.
  • July 1996: Selmer Industries is renamed Steinway Musical Instruments.
  • August 1996: Steinway Musical Instruments introduces an IPO by.
  • January 1997: Purchase of Emerson, a manufacturer of flutes.
  • December 1998 purchase of Kluge keyboards, German manufacturer of keyboards in Remscheid.
  • March 1999: acquisition of the Steinway Hall in New York City, prominent piano sales area with a concert hall.
  • November 1999: Purchase of The O.S. Kelly Company, manufacturer of piano frame castings.
  • January 2000: Purchase of Pianohaus Karl Lang, Munich, dealers, inter alia, by Steinway.
  • September 2000 purchase of United Musical Instruments, manufacturer of brass instruments.
  • January 2003: Merger of Selmer Company and United Musical Instruments in a unit under the name of Conn - Selmer.
  • August 2004: Purchase of G. Leblanc, manufacturer of brass instruments.
  • May 2008: Purchase of ArkivMusic, online sales of classical music.
