Sten Konow

Sten Konow ( born April 17, 1867 in Sondre Aurdal, † June 29, 1948 in Oslo) was a Norwegian Indologist.

Since 1897 lecturer and since 1899 lecturer, he was in 1910 appointed professor of Indian Studies at the University of Christiania (Oslo ) appointed. In 1914 he joined the University of Hamburg, where he took over the chair of Culture and History of India. In 1919 he returned as Professor of Indian language and history back to the University of Oslo.

Konow was a member of numerous academies and scientific societies. Since 1923 he was a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences.
