Stephanoberyciformes

The Thorn Fishy ( Stephanoberyciformes, Mountain, 1937) are an order of deep-sea living True bonefish. Its features include a round in cross-section body, a toothless palate and mostly extremely thin skull bones.

System

The order is controversial and paraphyletic. JA Moore provides all families of the order along with some families of the mucus -like head ( Beryciformes ) in the postulated by him Trachichthyiformes order. In the recent revision of the teleost systematics the Stephanoberyciformes are no longer used and placed its associated families in the order of the mucus -like head ( Beryciformes ), which only comes monophyletic.

Nelson indicates two superfamilies, nine families, 28 genera and 75 species for the order. The Walkopfartigen be performed in various sources, also as an independent order. Recent research revealed that two of the families described, the Megalomycteridae and Mirapinnidae, do not include taxonomically separate taxa, but in them in appearance and morphologically highly divergent male animals and the larvae of Cetomimidae were summarized.
