Stephen Elliott (actor)

Stephen Elliott ( born November 27, 1918 in New York City as Elliott Pershing Stitzel, † 21 May, 2005 Woodland Hills, California ) was an American actor.

Life

Stephen Elliott began his stage career in 1940 in his hometown of New York at the Neighborhood Playhouse. After military service he gave his debut in 1945 at the renowned Broadway in Shakespeare's The Tempest. For his stage work, he received a 1969 Drama Desk Award and in 1967 was nominated for a Tony Award.

Although Elliott was already in his early years working in film and television, he attained through regional awareness at an advanced age. He often played dubious or negative characters, such as a cold-blooded killer in Cutter's Way alongside Jeff Bridges and an arrogant millionaire Burt Johnson the opponent by Dudley Moore in the Oscar-winning comedy Arthur - No child of sadness as well as in the sequel Arthur 2 - On the Rocks.

In addition, Elliott took over numerous guest roles in television series and soap operas. He played Douglas Channing, the first husband of Angela Gioberti Channing ( Jane Wyman ), in Falcon Crest, four years Scotty Demarest in Dallas (1980, 1984-85 and 1987) and between 1994 and 1999 the recurring role of Judge Harold Aldrich in the medical drama Chicago Hope.

In his first marriage Elliott was married to stage actress Nancy Chase, with whom he had a daughter and a son. From 1980 until his death he was married to actress Alice Hirson.
