Stephen Schneider

Stephen H. Schneider ( born February 11, 1945, † 19 July 2010) was a long time employee of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR ) and the last fourteen years of his life, an American Professor of Environmental Biology and Global Change at Stanford University.

The focus of Schneider's work since the 1970s is on the climatology and particularly global warming. His expertise includes the creation and development of climate models, the physical effects of greenhouse gases and interactions between climate change and biological systems. Schneider was one of the first scientists who have pushed very early in an interdisciplinary scientific study of climate change.

Schneider has published over 450 scientific articles, books, book chapters and other papers yourself or as a co-author. He was coordinating lead author of the report of Working Group II to the Third IPCC Assessment Report of 2001.

He died on a flight from Gothenburg to London.
