Stevan Hristić

Stevan Hristić ( born June 19, 1885 in Belgrade, † August 21, 1958 ) was a Yugoslav composer.

Hristić studied from 1904 to 1908 in Leipzig composition with Stephan Krehl and conducting with Arthur Nikisch and continued his studies in Rome, Alexander Dmitrievich Kastalsky in Moscow and Paris continued. From 1912 to 1935 he was Kapellmeister, then director of the National Theatre in Belgrade. Hristić was co-founder of the Philharmonic Orchestra Belgrade. From 1947 to 1950 he taught at the Academy of Music.

He composed two stage works, the ballet The Legend of Ohrid, a symphonic poem, an orchestral suite, a rhapsody for piano and orchestra, a symphonic fantasy for violin and orchestra, an oratorio, a cantata, choirs, church music, film scores, piano works and songs.
