Stever at a water mill near its source

The Stever is about 58 km long, right-side tributary of the lip in North Rhine -Westphalia ( Germany ). The river valley from its source to its mouth is since time immemorial Stevergau called, which forms the landscape of southern Munster country together with the Dreingau.

Course

The Stever arises between Munster and Coesfeld, near the tree mountain watershed. Other water flows whose sources are nearby, flow through it in a completely different paths to the sea.

Below the Westerbergs with the Longinusturm is the source of the Stever on the southwest slope of the tree in mountains about 130 meters above sea level at the Bispinghöfen in Uphoven northwest of the small peasantry Stevern in the nature reserve Steverquelle. The pent-up source pond formerly served as fire water pond, livestock watering and fish tanks. Several basic sources and seeps pour so strong that the small clot quickly becomes a lush creek that shortly thereafter sufficient to drive the first water mill in Stevern.

From there, the Stever flows freely meandering south through meadows and fields on Appelhülsen after sending, where it feeds several lakes and moats in the public park and at the sending castle, the castle of her flowing Dummer Bach. Then the Stever the Dortmund -Ems Canal and the oxbow lake of the channel ( Old way) crosses under two canal bridges in a southerly direction to the right side Nonnenbach and the coming of Hiddingsel Kleuter Bach record on their way to Luedinghausen.

In Luedinghausen (52 m above sea level. NN ) divides the Stever and flows through the city with three arms ( Vischeringsche Stever, Mühlenstever, Ostenstever ). Before unite the Vischeringsche Stever and Mühlenstever in the south of the city center to the Old Stever, feeds the water of the former moats of the water castles Vischering and Luedinghausen. About one kilometer after the formation of the Old Stever unites it with the Ostenstever only in the 1930s artificial because of the floods occur regularly, and the river leaves Luedinghausen again as Stever.
