Stomias

Stomias nebulosus

The scales dragon fish ( Stomias ) are a genus of baleen dragon fish ( Stomiidae ) and form alone the subfamily Stomiinae. Shed dragon fish live in all seas.

Features

They have an elongated body covered with large, gently sloping shed. The mouth is large. The teeth are of unequal size. The tusks in the lower jaw are curved dagger- shaped and backwards. Lower jaw is a long Bartel. The beginning of the dorsal fin is well behind the pelvic fins approach. An adipose fin is missing. Shed dragon fish are 18 to 43 inches long.
