Stora Le

The Stora Le (also Lesjön; Store Le in Norwegian ) is a lake in Dalsland, Sweden. The northern end of the lake extends to Norway and after Värmland, where it finds its continuation as Foxen.

The lake extends over 70 miles from Ed in the south to Nössemark and Töcksfors in the north, located on Foxen. It is a very narrow lake that has more than 2-3 km wide only a few places. Only in the Foxen, a northwestern spur of the lake reaches a full width of 5 km. Stora Le and Foxen together form a 131 km ² large body of water. Thus, the Stora Le is the nine- tenth-largest lake in Sweden. The greatest water depth of 99 m reaches the lake south of Västra Fågelvik in Foxen.

The water level of the lake system is regulated since 1945 when he was raised by about 60 cm and is now at an altitude of 102.1 meters above sea level. Usually, the water level fluctuates around 1 m. The maximum outflow from the lake is 80 m³ / s The lake is accessible by boat across the Dalsland Canal.

The lake is nestled in a mountain landscape. The forests extend as far as the lake shore. The provincial fish of Dalsland, the four-horned sculpin, occurs in the Stora Le.

Due to the island Trollön ( Trolløya in Norwegian ) runs the Swedish-Norwegian border.
