Stralsund Highflyer

Stralsund is a high flyer originally bred in the German Hanseatic city of Stralsund pigeons breed. It is characterized by a pure white plumage, a perlfarbige Iris, a red rim of the eyes and the high- flying style.

The Stralsund high flyer looks more like a seagull as a dove, it is a breed joyful, shy animal.

The predecessor dove of Stralsund high flier should then have been brought in the 17th century from the East to Holland in the 18th century to Stralsund. Here the dove found many breeders; further breeding sites were Greifswald, Swinoujscie, Szczecin and Kolobrzeg, where Stralsund remained the " stronghold " of the breeder.

Middle of the 19th century, developed different racial types, such as the Hevernicksche porpoises and bottlenose dolphins Bodinussche. Heinrich Bodin, head of the Berlin Zoological Garden, sat down in his very position in the spread of Stralsund high flier one.

1905 Breeder merged from Stralsund, Greifswald, Swinoujscie, Bad Doberan, Soldin id Neumark, Stargard, Sehma and Scharfstein. They set up on 1 January 1906 special club of breeders of Stralsund high flier.

The special club split in 1948 as a result of the political division of Germany. In West Germany he remained under the old name, in East Germany, the special breeding community was founded. In 1990, the reunification of the association was formed and completed.

Although both teams had been working to the same standards, the Stralsund high flier m the eastern part was rather delicate, cultured rather coarse in the western part of Germany. The aim of the reunified association is the noble, medium-sized pigeon, as it was before 1948 standard.

The Stralsund high flyer is now held primarily as an exhibition dove, the high- flying style is neglected by many breeders.
