Stratiomys singularior is a fly from the family of soldier flies ( Stratiomyidae ).

Features

The flies reach a body length of 11 to 13 millimeters, the males are much smaller than the females. Your body is built stocky, the abdomen of the female is relatively wide. The head has a black base color is whitish and hairy bears on the forehead and at the apex of each two yellow spots. The tag ( scutellum ) is black, its posterior margin is yellow. The abdomen is black dorsal side and wears a drawing with yellow spots, the ventral side is black, only the rear edges of the sternites are yellow. The males have long hairy compound eyes, in which the upper ommatidia are significantly larger than the lower ones. Your abdomen is pale yellow- marked and long hairy yellow.

Occurrence and life

The species is widespread in western and southern Europe. One finds the Imagines in the summer when visiting umbelliferous.
