Strausberg–Strausberg Nord railway

The railway line Strausberg - Strausberg Nord is a nine- kilometer-long single-track tram route in the district of Mark- land or the state of Brandenburg. It connects the Strausberg station on the Eastern Railway with the center of the city, located to the north of it. In addition to the Berlin S-Bahn line 5, which is running on the track in 40 -minute intervals, drive on some freight trains, the railway serving the port to the Strutzberg barracks of the Air Force in the North Strausberg's.

History

The Kasernierte People's Police, from 1956 gave rise to the National People's Army had laid in June 1954 its headquarters from Berlin -Adlershof to Strausberg, since Berlin was declared on the basis of the four-power status of demilitarized zone. Since the seat but was in the north of the city, but the nearest train station was far south, the construction of a branch line was necessary. The Strausberg Railway could not establish the transport connection, because the track was not enough to barracks. After a short construction period, the S-Bahn line was opened to traffic on 1 January 1955. The train threaded from behind the main platform of the Strausbergerplatz station from the Eastern Railway and resulted in a slightly curved shape to the north. In addition to the railhead Strausberg Nord a breakpoint Strausberg city about seven kilometers behind the line beginning and a rail connection to the guard regiment Hugo Eberlein was immediately before the terminus. For use came first diesel railcars, which were replaced from the June 3, 1956 by electric commuter trains. However, the complicated track guide on the Strausberg Railway Station and the unfavorable position of the house platform initially prevented a continuous operation, so that the trains between Strausberg and Strausberg Nord drove in the first irregular shuttle.

Only after a solid track connection is established, the continuous operation could be started on 26 May 1968. As in Strausberg just a plain track was available and there was the next passing place in Strausberg Nord, but only one 40 -minute intervals could be driven.

Both to enhanced accessibility of the area between suburban and center as well as tourist traffic to the nearby Herrensee a breakpoint Hegermühle was applied to the October 5, 1984, about halfway between Strausberg and Strausberg city.

After the turn, there were isolated voices demanding the closure of the route and the simultaneous expansion of the parallel Strausberg Railway. Studies revealed that the ridership of 10,500 would only increase to 11,700, rather than the targeted 14,200. As a further means to increase passenger 99 individual regional trains line RB26 were used for rush hour between Berlin- Lichtenberg and Strausberg Nord during the timetable period 1998 /. However, since only 200 passengers a day used this connection, the offer was withdrawn in 1999.

Around 2000, the travel times of the S-Bahn Berlin Alexanderplatz to Strausberg could be shortened by modernization of the fleet by almost five minutes. Ridership on the route to Strausberg Nord rose, between 1998 and 2002 alone by 24 percent. This in turn allowed claims are being made, on the route to densify the clock at 20 minutes, but makes the construction of a second track in the area of the breakpoint Hegermühle necessary. Although the state of Brandenburg ordered the 20 -minute intervals several years ago, the German railway, which had the plans for expansion on track only after the country in mid-2012 took over the planning costs in the amount of 450,000 euros. The plans are to be implemented by 2014. There will probably be necessary to remove a 2.2 -kilometer section between Strausberg and Hegermühle twofold. For this purpose, about seven million euros are estimated. The current plans provide for the doubling between Strausberg and Hegermühle for 2015, so a 20 -minute intervals would be available from December 2015. The renovation of the station Strausberg with the establishment of separate platforms for S- Bahn and regional traffic is scheduled for 2016/2017.
