Stuart Randall, Baron Randall of St Budeaux

Stuart Jeffrey Randall, Baron Randall of St Budeaux ( born June 22, 1938 in Plymouth, † 11 August 2012) was a British Labour Party politician.

Life and career

Randall was born on 22 June 1938 as a son of a Lehreres in Plymouth. He attended Plymouth Technical Secondary School.

Initially, he worked as an electrician in a shipyard in Plymouth. Later he was promoted to manager. Randall studied at University College, Cardiff Electrical Engineering ( Electrical Engineering ) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree.

He was twenty years in the electronics industry and Chairman ( Chairman ) of ACWI Ltd and The Genesis Initiative.

In 1966, he joined the Labour Party. In the general election in October 1974, he joined unsuccessfully for the constituency of South Worcestershire. In 1979 he stood as a candidate in the European elections in 1979 for the constituency of West Midlands. 1981 Randall was determined as the designated successor of the member of the House James Johnson.

Membership in the House of Commons

Randall was from 1983 to 1997 Member of the House of Commons for the constituency of Hull West. He was from 1984 to 1985 Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS ) with Roy Hattersley as Deputy Chairman ( Deputy Leader ) of the Labour Party and Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer. He held several positions as a speaker (Front Bench Spokesman ) held: 1985-1987 of Agricultural, Fisheries and Food, 1987-1992 Interior.

He considered himself a Christian Socialist. His political views were considered moderate.

In the 1980s, he spoke to the Isle of Man, hyperactive children, Lebanon, and the Falkland Islands. In the 1990s, he volunteered to border controls, people with disabilities, the Maastricht Treaty and the Security Service Bill to speak.

For family reasons, he stepped to the general election of 1997 no longer present, but resigned shortly before. Thus he made it his party in the constituency impossible to make its preferred candidate. The seat went to the unionist Alan Johnson. Previously there had been internal differences in the constituency.

Membership in the House of Lords

Randall was appointed on 25 September 1997 Life peer as Baron Randall of St Budeaux, of St Budeaux in the County of Devon. The official introduction to the House of Lords took place on 14 October 1997 with the support of Stanley Clinton Davis and Denis Howell, Baron Howell. His inaugural address was delivered on 5 November 1997 on the topic of environmental protection. As subjects of political interest he specifies information technology. As states are of particular interest he called on the website of the House of Lords, the USA and France.

At the ceremony for the JTL National Awards, which took place in the House of Lords, he was annually hosts (as of 2005). He also was a member of the Digital Policy Alliance.

In 1998, he caused a stir when he supportive arguing for Hereditary Peers ( hereditary peers) and against their exclusion. He also spoke in the late 1990s to Iraq, police dogs, Montserrat and the EU funding. In the 2000s, he enlisted in the manufacturing industry, the agricultural income, small businesses and social security to speak. On 8 July 2003 he volunteered to last word. On a vote he took part last on 24 October 2007.

His presence at meeting days was initially in the medium to high range, but left in the session 2007/2008 significantly. In the following years he was no longer present. Since 23 January 2008 and again from 22 June 2010 he was on leave granted by the House of Lords Leave of Absence.

Work in the public

Randall commented positively on the quality of the 2004 Broker 's Gin and its presentation.

He was Chairman ( Chairman ) in the Genesis Initiative under the presidency of Michael Windsor for a survey, which should determine the views of small business to general business conditions.

Randall was a member of the Information Society Alliance EURIM. In May 2000 he stood for election as a director.

Family and death

Randall married in 1963 Gillian Michael; together they have three daughters. He died on 11 August 2012 at the age of 74 years.
