Stubentor (Vienna U-Bahn)

The underground station the U3 Stubentor was opened on April 6, 1991. It is located in the 1st district of Vienna Innere city, and extends between the Stubenbastei and the room ring. The station name refers to the former Stubentor the city's fortifications.

The plant

The three-storey station, in which the two tubes of the line U3 bayed for reasons of space above the other is due to the few interchanges and the high ridership of the two nearest stations arranged in a row, Stephansplatz or highway, train station Wien Mitte, rather introspective. Escalators lead into the distributor floor under the Dr. -Karl -Lueger -Platz and back to the starting line wool. Another output leads through a fixed staircase and 3 lifts directly to the park ring. There is the possibility for ring number 2 tram from the city bus line 3A toward Scots ring and the bus line 74A toward St. Marx Cemetery to transfer. About the distributor floor, where also a public toilet is housed, performs another fixed staircase to the Dr. -Karl -Lueger -Platz.

Area around the station

In the immediate vicinity of the Museum and the Academy of Applied Arts, the old university is the University Archives and the Institute for Byzantine Studies, Austrian Academy of Sciences and the Simpl.

Configuration

In the basement of the station are located since 2005, the three murals movements of the souls of the East Tyrolean artist Michael Hedwig. The panels have a size of 10 mx 1.2 m and 5 mx 2.2 m, the third panel extends into the elevator shaft and is 8.8 m high and 2.2 m wide. Hedwig discusses the spiritual forces within us and the aura that surrounds us and hits the aura of other people. The images give the finish a cheerful, friendly and communicative atmosphere. The panels were first painted in watercolor technique on cardboard and then transferred to grid technology on aluminum plates; the painting process took a little more than a year.

In the area of the station was located until 1858 the Stubentor the Vienna city fortifications. As part of the station building to find the city walls had been expected, the work was therefore accompanied by archaeologists. After the excavations part of the city wall at the Dr. -Karl -Lueger -Platz was presented openly; the trench is via a staircase as a station output. Two other parts of the city wall were integrated into the manifold floor. At the Dr. -Karl -Lueger -Platz low, symbolic wall was built, remember the four information boards at the Stubentor.
