Studium Biblicum Franciscanum

The Franciscan Biblical Studies (SER) is a center for biblical and archaeological research and studies based in Jerusalem.

History

The Franciscan Biblical Studies has been planned since 1901 by the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land. In 1924 it was established as a center for biblical and archaeological research and studies. In addition, a learned society developed to the teaching and research of the Bible and Christian Science archeology.

Organization

Since 2001, the Franciscan Biblical Studies is a faculty of Biblical Sciences and Archaeology of the Antonianum University, the Order of the Franciscan high school in Rome. The Franciscan Biblical Studies, in addition to its headquarters in flagellation monastery in the Via Dolorosa in the convent of the Franciscans in Jerusalem's Old City, a branch in Hong Kong, which was founded in 1945 by Gabriele Allegra, OFM. In 1987, the Hong Kong Catholic Biblical Institute was founded.

The SER is the editor of theological and archaeological journal Liber annuus, which appears in Latin.

The first edition of the Bible published in Chinese language, which is known as " Chinese Bible " in China - By Gabriele Allegra, OFM was founded in 1968 in Hong Kong - along with the Franciscan Biblical Studies as a publisher.

Teaching and research

The study options are limited to two courses. It will be awarded in Biblical Sciences and Archaeology, the academic title of licentiate and doctor. In addition, a Diploma in Biblical and Oriental Studies and a biblical diploma is offered. An additional philosophical- theological study course is about "the study Theologicum Jerosolymitanum " possible. Language of instruction is Italian.

Teaching and research fields of biblical studies and Christian archeology in particular, the Biblical Archaeology with exegetical, theological, historical and linguistic focus. The world-renowned library of the Franciscan Biblical Studies comprises approximately 50,000 volumes and 420 periodicals in the fields of archeology, biblical studies, patristics, early Judaism, the ancient Near East and ancient itineraries of the Holy Land.
