Sturgis Motorcycle Rally

The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is an American motorcycle rally in Sturgis (South Dakota), which usually takes place in the first week of August. In addition to the Daytona Beach Bike Week is the largest motorcycle event in the world.

History

The first rally was organized under the name " Black Hills Classic" by the " Jackpine Gypsies " motorcycle club on 14 August 1938. Initially, there was a rally of racing event and stunt show, however, was in 1961 at the motocross disciplines and " Hill Climb " (German: " hill climb " ) expanded.

During World War II, the rally was suspended due to the gasoline rationing of the U.S. government in part.

Visitor

In the last ten years had the rally 500000-750000 visitors, many of whom arrive with their families in mobile homes and drive their motorcycle until the last kilometer.

Media reports

In 1997, the crew of the television series COPS, and the actor & athlete Dennis Rodman took part in the rally. 1995 to 1999 the world championship in wrestling was also held in Sturgis.

Continue to report numerous television stations in each year of the event. By 2012, the rally was the venue of the World Championship of Custom Bike Building.
