Fair Park

Between the ICS and the halls 4, 6 and 8 on the south side and Halls 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 on the north side of the fairgrounds extends the 28,000 square meter exhibition center park on three levels. It is accessible only during trade fairs. The naming rights to the " Rothaus Park " were acquired by the Rothaus brewery.

Car park

A striking part of the new exhibition is composed of two "fingers" existing on the A 8 tensioned parking garage. The plant cost 73 million euros and offers five floors of 4,200 vehicles space. Of the 440 meter long, 100 meter wide and 22 meter high structure extending 100 meters support free height of 10 meters above the highway, the highway junction and the planned high-speed railway route. Between the two fingers, at the height of the first parking level, runs a walk to the exhibition. The parking garage was financed by the Stuttgart airport as a mixed-use ( visitors and passengers ) is provided for the parking areas.

Due to the limited space and a hindrance to the A8 excluded as possible, the car park was pushed to the incremental launching method over the highway. The Verschübe were held over without disrupting traffic.

Robert Bosch GmbH has acquired the naming rights to the park, which is therefore officially bears the name " Bosch car park" and is provided on both sides with Bosch lettering. Each letter of the 55 meters long and 8 meters high, weighs about four tons of logos, the stylized ignition armature measures 12 meters in diameter and 12 tons in weight. It is thus currently one of the largest neon signs in the world and after the unlit Hollywood Sign to the world's second largest lettering. 18,000 white and red LEDs provide lighting that automatically adjusts to the lighting conditions and neither driver dazzle, nor should irritate nocturnal insects.

The parking garage is not economical to operate with a cost of more than € 19,000 per parking space, according to the Baden-Württemberg Court. The utilization of underground parking amounts to even during major trade fairs, less than ten percent. The state fair would according to the Court 46 million euros can be realized conveniently without any loss in quality.

History

Former fairground Killesberg

At the exhibition center Killesberg over 50 years international trade fairs and exhibitions were held until 2007. With the exhibition "Baby Stuttgart World " from 5th to 7th October 2007 at the already partially broken fairgrounds a decades- long era came to an end.

The former fairground consisted of a total size of approximately 54,500 m² of total 13 halls of various sizes and the Fair Congress Center A / B.

About the City U7 Messe Killesberg was five minutes away from Stuttgart Central Station. The line was designed for high traffic performance by 10 -minute intervals and double traction. Today the U5 wrong there, but only in 20 -minute intervals.

Due to their restricted location between residential areas and the Killesberg the show suffered from major traffic problems. In addition, a spatial extension to the Killesberg was not possible.

In December 2006, the concept for the re-use of the areas of the old fairgrounds by the Stuttgart City Council was adopted. In parts of the site, a residential home for the elderly emerged ( " Augustinum Stuttgart II " ) and flats. Furthermore, an extension of the height parks Killesberg is provided. In addition, the old Messeparkhaus " Red Wall " demolished.

On August 26, 2007 began with the demolition of the connecting bridge over the Stresemannstraße, between Halls 10 and 11, the demolition work on the old fairgrounds. Today is nothing more to see of the show on the Killesberg.

New Exhibition

The plans for a new building of the Stuttgart exhibition date back to 1993 when a site survey identifies the location between the A 8 and Stuttgart Airport as optimal. The end of 1996 were held preliminary negotiations to acquire the land required. The affected farmers and city Leinfelden rejected the fairs, which meant the sealing of around 100 hectares particularly fertile soils Filderstadt.

In the early 1990s, the estimated costs were estimated at about 300 million euros. The first financing concept of the Stuttgart Trade Fair and Congress Society of 1997 provided a framework of a billion DM (about 511 million euros ). Thereafter, the country should make 150 million euros of debt service aid.

In December 1998, the parliament of Baden -Württemberg adopted the so-called State Fair Act. This formed the basis for the approval process for the construction of the new Stuttgart Trade Fair.

As developers and owners the Neue Messe GmbH & Co. KG acts, as the operating company serves the Messe Stuttgart GmbH. The country holds about the investment company of the State of Baden- Württemberg 45 percent of the shares in the project company and is involved in half of the operating company.

On 11 February 2000 went from a two-stage competition with 108 participants in the design of the Stuttgart architects' offices Wulf & Partner as an ultimate winner. This office was charged in connection with the planning and execution of the object. The project management for the project was taken over by Drees & Sommer.

The plan approval process was launched on 2 July 2001. With the start of construction was in 2003, with the opening expected for autumn 2006. There have been numerous demonstrations of conservationists against the development of one of the best agricultural land in Baden -Württemberg and by farmers who feared for their existence. While many of the landowners received financial or in the form of new land compensation, these remained after several owners view far below the market value of the land. So it always came back to lengthy processes which were decided in all cases in favor of the country.

Due to higher costs and lower revenue expectations a new financing concept was created in 2001 and signed a financing agreement in July 2002 on 805.79 million euros. In it were no reserves for price increases and contingencies and no financing costs of the builder included. Resources should come from federal, state and municipal funds as well as funds from the Association Region Stuttgart, the airport and the economy.

In summer 2004, an extraordinary comparison between the state government and the remaining property owners took place, so that could be started with the construction of the new exhibition grounds in September 2004. The foundation stone was laid on 15 June 2005. On 25 September 2006, the topping-out ceremony was celebrated.

On 13 June 2007, the temporary opening of the new exhibition took place with the " Blechexpo " instead. On 19 October 2007 the new exhibition in the presence of Federal President Horst Köhler was inaugurated.

In May 2011, the cost of the project was estimated at around 816 million euros. A final settlement is due to ongoing correction of defects and pending legal proceedings pending. 18 million euro cost that should be included in the project costs have been settled outside the financial planning and outside the budget. Various Items included in the original cost accounting have not been implemented or in a simplified form. Together with the transport buildings and the administration building resulting total cost of around one billion euros.

According to the State Court of Baden -Württemberg, 2011 55 trade fairs were held at 107 exhibition days a year. At 258 days, therefore no fairs were held. The CEO of Messe Stuttgart presented the opposite, that at any trade show information can include setting up and dismantling days, which were not considered by the Court of Audit. Thus, the speaker of the management Ulrich Kromer estimated the capacity of halls on 190 to 260 days (according to Hall ), with around 365 days of the year, net of around 90 holidays and public holidays.

The exhibition company is considering building another hall at the fairgrounds. To this end, parts of the large trade fair parking areas are to be used. The funding of an extension is to take place from its own funds. The new hall will have a gross floor area of 25,000 square meters and an exhibition area of over 14,000 m². The investment costs for the design of the office Wulf architects are estimated at around 67.5 million euros. Construction of the new exhibition hall will take place the end of 2015, completion is planned for 2018.
