The underground station Stuttgart University was opened on 29 September 1985, serves the development of the University of Stuttgart Pfaffenwaldring campus in Stuttgart- Vaihingen. It lies at the Stuttgart junction line, the main line of the Stuttgart S-Bahn. Neighboring stations are the Stuttgart Schwabstraße Station and the Stuttgart Österfeld station ( since 1993 ) and the train station Stuttgart -Vaihingen (until 1993 ). Is operated by the breakpoint Stuttgart University since opening unchanged by the lines S1, S2 and S3. The station has a small DB travel center.
Location
The station is located in a curve of the railway line and striking deep under the ground. From the platforms therefore have to be used consecutively three flights of stairs or escalators up to the surface. Alternatively elevators can be used. About the Station is an auditorium building of the university, which was built after the opening of the station. In addition, the University road passes over the station. It connects to the highway 14 and the district Büsnau. The bus stop at University Street is served by some of Stuttgart and some regional bus lines.
In contrast to the other tunnel stations of the Stuttgart S-Bahn station, the university has external platforms. The design of the station walls, they are painted brown, takes on the University of respect. So there is every faculty had a special motive.
The longitudinal gradient in the station area is mostly 2.5 per thousand in the direction Österfeld. At the southern end of the station, an inclination change of 2.5 is 38 per thousand gradient. Due to the necessary rounding the slope in the southern section of the platform increases.
