Suburb

As a suburb refers to a location on the outskirts of a larger city settlement. It is usually part of a compaction zone and has no or only a small central importance for the metropolitan area. In recent decades there has been, particularly in Europe and in North America the trend of population migration from the inner cities to the suburbs. In Germany, the result was that the big cities due to lack of tax revenue financially often got into trouble and as a political reorganization plan and / or to improve their population statistics ( funding ) the incorporation in its suburbs below.

While in Germany the suburbs of many cities are now often incorporated and thus become parts of the city, suburbs are in many other countries, such as in the United States or in Australia, still independent. In France the banlieues are considered social problem areas (see riots in France in 2005 ). The situation is similar with the outskirts of American inner cities.

Suburbs are often well connected by public transport, for example, S -Bahn, with the city center, which for commuters and students who work in the city and learn is very important.
