Südkurier

The Südkurier is a regional daily newspaper for the regions of north-western Lake Constance, Upper Rhine and the Black Forest is located in Konstanz. The History

John Weyl ( born August 28, 1904 in Kiel, † September 4, 1989 in Konstanz ), the former head of the Central Office in Ullsteinhaus magazine publisher, received in 1945 by the French occupying power a license and founded in Constance, with Hugo Eckener, the Südkurier and as a book publisher the Südverlag. Weyl was thus also the first editor of the Southern Mail. On September 8, 1945, the first edition appeared. Initially released only one, then two editions per week. The newspaper had initially only four pages because the French occupation forces allotted little paper.

It was only in November 1953, the newspaper out daily. Since 1945, new issues were constantly established until the present distribution area has been reached.

In 1970, publisher John Weyl also managing partner of Südkurier GmbH, Südverlag GmbH, the company for publishing rights mbH, Managing Director of Printing and Publishing Company GmbH and the University of Konstanz Verlag GmbH, all in Konstanz. 1980 bought the publishing group Georg von Holtzbrinck 25 percent of the shares of the family business. Since 1987, the Südkurier GmbH is also active in private local radio. In 1990, the remaining shares were sold to Holtzbrinck Publishing Group. Until then, the Südkurier had its headquarters in the old town of Constance at the market place and at the fish market.

Südkurier Group
