Sukhoi P-1

The Sukhoi P-1 (Russian Сухой П -1 ) was a prototype for an interceptor.

History

1955 OKB Sukhoi was invited to submit designs for a two-seat interceptor with an engine Ljulka AL- 9 and with two engines Klimov WK -11. The designs were designated P1 and P2, respectively. In 1956 began development of the two-seat experimental delta wing interceptor - P-1. She had on both sides of the hull oval air inlets with conical air inlet cones. The first flight took place on 12 July 1957. As the proposed Ljulka AL -9 was not with 100 kN thrust available, the P- 1 received a Ljulka AL -7F was so strong but underpowered. The problems with the proposed engine Ljulka AL -9 eventually led to the setting of the flight test.
