Sukhoi T-3

The Sukhoi T-3 (Russian Сухой Т -3) was a prototype of a Soviet interceptor.

Development

The project of this fighter interceptor with delta wing began in 1953., The T- 3 was developed in parallel with the swept-wing prototype S-1 in a very short time, with large parts were taken over this pattern. The T-3 was launched on 26 May 1956, its first flight. She had a round, non-controllable supersonic air inlet with two therein at the top of radar equipment in the bow. The proposed pure rocket armament should make guided missiles K -6 or K- 7, but were still in development. The testing showed very quickly that the arrangement of radars produced too much resistance, also delayed the development of the proposed missile, while the existing K -5M missiles were considered insufficient. In addition, problems were with the engine, so the project was finally completed. The prototype still received a revised radar and other weapons and was a T -43- 1 next tested.
