Sunandha Kumariratana

Sunandha Kumariratana (Thai: สุ นันทา กุมารี รัตน์, Thai Umschriftsystem: Sunantha Kumarirat; pronunciation: [ sùʔnant ʰ a ː kùʔma ː ri ː Council ]; born November 10, 1860 in Bangkok, Thailand, † May 31, 1880 at Bang Pa In ) was the eldest daughter of King Mongkut (Rama IV ) and his wife PIAM. Her birth name was Sunandha Kumariratana ( พระองค์เจ้า สุ นันทา กุมารี รัตน์ ). She was a half-sister and also the first of four queens ( wives ) of King Chulalongkorn ( Rama V ). Two of them were her younger sisters, Savang Vadhana Saovabha Phongsri.

Sunandha Kumariratana drowned at the age of 19 years along with her one year old daughter Kunnaporn Pet Charat in Bang Pa -in flow, as the royal boat capsized on the way to the Summer Palace in Bang Pa In. Despite the presence of many courtiers, no one dared to rescue her, since it was banned in Siam under pain of death to touch members of the royal family. King Chulalongkorn was then immediately abolish this rule. Later, the grieving Chulalongkorn for his late wife and his daughter erected a marble monument at the Palace of Bang Pa-In.

The Rajabhat University Suan Dusit district of Bangkok in Sunandha is named after Sunandha Kumariratana.
