Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

The Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve is a 139 -hectare national park in the northwest of Singapore. The area at the mouth of three rivers was originally used for the breeding of fish and crabs. The ecological importance of this last major continuous area of mangrove forests in Singapore were recognized in 1989. The farms were relocated and the area developed into a nature park. This was officially opened by Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong in 1993. On 1 January 2002, the area was upgraded to a nature reserve and renamed as Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve.

Flora and Fauna

The park extends over the estuary of three rivers and is home to mangrove forests, lakes, small ponds and nachgewachsener rain forest (secondary forest ). From September to April, the area is visited by migratory birds that rest here before boarding their flight to the south. Since the park is the final resting area on the Malay Peninsula, it is for the migratory birds of great importance. A total of 126 bird species have been recorded. In addition, the park provides habitat for about 200 Bindenwarane that are up to 2m tall. Also living in water snakes ( grass snakes ), crustaceans, mudskippers, turtles and many species of fish are to be found.

Infrastructure

The park is well served by three circular trails (3 km, 5 km, 7 km). The paths lead to boardwalks partly directly through the mangroves and thereby allow a direct experience of this biotope. A variety of observation posts allow the undisturbed bird watching. For emergencies, some of them are equipped with radio telephones. Two Towers offer a good overview of the park. The visitor center at the entrance of the park houses an exhibition on the flora and fauna of the area as well as a small cafe. For groups (eg classrooms ) is an "outdoor classroom " is available.

Check-in

The park can be reached by taxi or by the Kranji MRT Station ( NS7 ) with bus 925 in the direction of Woodlands. On weekdays, the bus will not directly to the park - the nearest exit is Kranji Reservoir Pk B ( Bus Stop No. 49199. ). On foot it is still 15 minutes.
