Munţii Sureanu or Sureanu Mountains, also called Munţii Cugirului, ( German Muhlbacher Mountains; Hungarian Kudzsiri - havasok ) is a mountain range of the mountain group Sureanu - Parang Lotrului in the Middle part of the Transylvanian Alps in Romania.

Geography

Located in the south of the circles Alba and Hunedoara, the Sureanu Mountains bordered to the north by the Muhlbacher mountains in the historic lower forest of the Transylvanian Basin, to the east by the Cindrel Mountains (Romanian Munţii Cibin ), from which the Sureanu Mountains by the Sebes ( Mühlbach ) - a left tributary of the Mureş ( Maros ) - is disconnected. In the south the Sureanu Mountains adjacent to the Parang Mountains and the Petro Schener Valley, on the southwest by the Retezat Mountains ( Munţii Retezat ) separated by the valley of the river Strei ( Strell ), which in a northerly direction at Simeria ( fishing village ) in the Mureş flows.

Rivers and Lakes

  • Some of the rivers in the mountains are, to withdrawing with its headwaters Pârâul Cald and Pârâul Rovinei, the Jiul de Est (Eastern Jiu ) - a tributary of the Jiu - between parang and Sureanu Mountains, the Orăştie (or Raul Grădiştea called ), the Sibişel ( a tributary of the Orăştie ), the Cugir ( a tributary to the Mures ), the Raul Mare ( a tributary of the Cugir ), the Luncani ( a tributary of the Strei ), and many others
  • In Muhlbacher mountains, the lakes are tau ( ⊙ 45.6884923.60958 ) and OASA ( ⊙ 45.5873123.62726 ) the latter being situated at 1255 m above sea level, with the 91 -meter-high dam and a volume of about 136 million cubic meters of water which is larger. The Canciu Reservoir ( 45.665223.50538 ⊙ ) at the Raul Mare River and the Sureanu Lake ( ⊙ 45.5806523.50752 ).

To the east of Sureanu Mountains, along the Mühlbach, the National Road (Drum National) DN 67C - the so-called Trans Alpina -, part of the Romanian national road network, but this is not paved.
