Susan-B.-Anthony-Dollar

The Susan B. Anthony dollar is an American Kursmünze to a U.S. dollar that was minted between 1979 and 1981 and again in 1999. It shows on the front of the portrait of the pioneer of the American women's rights movement, Susan Brownell Anthony. On the back of the emblem of the Apollo 11 mission is depicted a bald eagle landing on the moon.

The coin replaced the Eisenhower dollar coined until 1978, which was not very popular due to its size. However, the Susan B. Anthony dollar could not prevail in daily payments also. On the one hand pushed the slightly square -acting form of skepticism among the population and on the other hand the coin is only slightly larger than the same colored Quarter ( quarter ), which often led to confusion. Because of the coinage in 1981 was reinstated. In 1999, the coin was launched again, but replaced by the Sacagawea dollar in the year 2000. However, the Susan B. Anthony dollar is still a legal tender and can occasionally be found in circulation.

The coin consists of a three-layered material: two layers of cupronickel (75% Cu, 25 % Ni) and in between a layer of pure copper. The copper layer is visible as a red line in the margin. It has a diameter of 26.5 mm, a thickness of 2.0 mm and weighs 8.1 g, the edge is serrated.
