Susan Thomas, Baroness Thomas of Walliswood

Susan Petronella Thomas, Baroness Thomas of Walliswood, of Dorking in the County of Surrey OBE DL (birth name: Susan Petronella Fordham Arrow; born December 20 1935) is a British politician of the Liberal Democrats, who is a member of the House of Lords since 1994.

Unsuccessful House Nominations and commitment in Surrey

After schooling Susan Thomas studied history at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford University and graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA History) from. After marriage and raising children, she worked 1971-1974 at the National Economic Development Council ( NEDC ) and then to 1978 as Executive Director of the Association of the British clothing industry before it was from 1978 to 1985 rector of a school.

In the general election on 9 June 1983 and on 11 June 1987, she ran unsuccessfully for the Liberal Alliance each in Mole Valley constituency for a seat in the House of Commons.

In 1985 she became a member of the Council of the County of Surrey, where she was employed until 1997. Between 1993 and 1996 she was its vice - chairman and then between 1996 and 1997 its chairman. House of Lords member

In 1994, she was raised as a Life Peeress with the title Baroness Thomas of Walliswood, of Dorking in the County of Surrey to the peerage and became a member as a member of the House of Lords.
