Sverepec

Sverepec (Hungarian Lejtős - to 1907 Szverepec ) is a city and a municipality in the Trenčín Region Okres Považska Bystrica in northwestern Slovakia. December 31, 2011 were recorded in the town of 1159 inhabitants.

Geography

The municipality is located in Považské podolie in the broader Middle Vah region at the confluence of several streams, below the mountains Strážovské hills, which rises in the south. Sverepec is located five kilometers from Považska Bystrica and 38 kilometers from the regional capital of Trenčín.

History

The municipality's territory was located in the 9th and 10th centuries, a Slavic settlement. The place was in 1321 ( other details in 1327 ) was first mentioned in writing as Sverepecz and belonged to the lower Edelman's families Viszolaj, Szunyogh and Podmanický and the estate of Waagbistritz. At the village were in the past two pits, one for sand extraction and the second for the promotion of the granite.

1981-1990 the church was a part of the city Považska Bystrica.
