Sverre Farstad
Sverre Farstad Melvin ( born February 8, 1920 in Trondheim, † 27 March 1978 in Oslo) was a Norwegian speed skater.
Career
Farstad 1947 won surprisingly at the Speed Skating European Championships bronze and shortly afterwards at the World Championships silver medal. Previously, he had become only ninth in the Norwegian national championships and was only able to launch internationally, because 14 days before the start of the European Championship seven of Norway's best runners had canceled their participation.
The following year he was. During the first Olympic Winter Games after the Second World War in St. Moritz Olympic champion in the 1,500 meters and sixth over 500 m In 1949 he became European Champion in the all around. He also set up the only world record of his career.
After his retirement Sverre Farstad worked as a sports journalist.
