Swami Rama

Swami Rama ( born October 26, 1925 in North India, † 1996 in Rishikesh, real name: Brij Kishore Dhasmana ), especially in the Himalayas also known as Bhole Baba and as Rama Dandi. It was inaugurated in early childhood of Bengali Baba in the tradition of yoga. Since early childhood he practiced the various disciplines of yoga in monasteries of the Himalayas.

Life and Teaching

Lived in his childhood and growing up and traveled Rama as an orphan with mendicant monks, yogis and sadhus from Garhwal, Kumaon, Kangra Valley, Kashmir, Ladakh and Tibet and other parts of India. Among his teachers were Ramana Maharshi, Aurobindo, Anandamayi Ma and Rabindranath Tagore. In Tibet, he completed his studies with Mahavatar Babaji.

Between 1938 and 1944 taught Rama Vedic Hindu and Buddhist scriptures in various monasteries. At the age of 24 years, Rama was the Shankaracharya of Karvirpitham in South India, one of the highest spiritual positions of India. In 1952 he gave the Office, got married and started a family. Later he left this to return to the Himalayas and continue his spiritual practice. In 1969 he traveled to the U.S. for the first time. He founded the Himalayan Institute of Yoga Science and Philosophy, with centers around the world.

In 1993, he finally returned to India, there to realize his plan to build a hospital for the people living at the foot of the Himalayan people, the Himalayan Institute Hospital.

Rama founded many organizations. His teachings he spread in his writings and lectures. He taught that one should know himself at all levels, and declared, " After I have visited hundreds of countries, I have found that it all is a big problem and that is that the man himself is not met and understood, and instead tried to understand God and others ".

After his death in 1996, his students continued the work. One of his students, Veda Bharati, has over 60 years of worldwide active to pass on the tradition of yogis of the Himalayas in the sense of his teacher.
