Pempheris adusta

The glass or Beilfische ( Pempheridae ) are a family of the perch family, which consists of two genera and about 25 species. There are small fish that live in shoals in the western Atlantic and Indo-Pacific. Both species live in the daytime hiding in caves and under overhangs. At night they are active and hunt zooplankton.

Features

Glass or Beilfische are 7.5 to 20 inches long. There are hochrückige fish whose laterally flattened body is covered with large cycloid or ctenoid scales. Her eyes are large, the column foot is at an angle, the anal fin is long. The maxillary does not reach behind the eye center. The fish have a short dorsal fin, which is just around the midsection. Young fish are transparent.
