Święty Gaj

Święty Gaj ( German Heiligenwalde ) is a place in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and is part of the gmina (Town ) Rychliki ( Reichenbach ) in the powiat Elbląg ( Elbing circle ).

Geographical location

Święty Gaj is located on the Młynówka ( Mill Stream ), 19 kilometers southwest of the former county town Pasłęk ( Prussian Holland ) and eight kilometers north of the city Dzierzgoń ( Christburg ). Up to the present district town of Elbląg ( Elbing ) is 25 kilometers. The Woiwodschaftsgrenze to Pomerania Located two kilometers to the west. To the east of the village there is an old Slavic castle wall.

A rail link no longer exists. By 1945 Kwietniewo (Royal Blumenau, 1931-1945 King Blumenau ) was the next station on the route of Elbing after Miswalde ( Myślice ), and in 2004 the railway line from Malbork ( Marienburg) by Maldyty ( Małdyty ) was with the station in Dzierzgoń ( Christburg ) inoperative.

History

Said before 1945 Heiligenwalde place was a Kirchdorf domain. The Commander of Christchurch Castle ( Dzierzgoń ) and later Grand Master of the Teutonic Order, Luther of Brunswick, gave the village on April 17, 1324 Tangible.

On May 28, as 1874 Heiligenwalde in the newly formed District Old Doll Städt (Stare Dolno ). He belonged until 1945 to the district Prussian Holland in the district of Königsberg the Prussian province of East Prussia. In 1910, the Gutsbezirk domain Heiligenwalde 62, the rural community Heiligenwalde counted 333 inhabitants.

On September 30, 1928, the rural community and the Gutsbezirk domain merged to form the new rural community Heiligenwalde. The total population increased until 1933 to 411 in 1939 and amounted to 380

As a result of the Second World War came Heiligenwalde to Poland and received the Polish name " Święty Gaj " ( which translates as " sacred grove " means ). Today the town is the seat of a Schulz Office (Polish: sołectwo ) within the rural community Rychliki ( Reichenbach ) and belongs to Elblaski powiat ( county Elbing ) of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship ( 1975-1998 Elbląg Voivodeship ).

Church

Already in 1330 there were in Heiligenwalde a church. Before 1945, the population was almost exclusively Protestant Holy Forest denomination. Heiligenwalde formed with Royal Blumenau ( 1931-1945 King Blumenau, Polish today: Kwietniewo ) - here was the parish seat - the parish Blumenau Heiligenwalde. It was after the Reformation to the inspection Saalfeld in East Prussia (Polish: Zalewo ): the Church of the Old Prussian Union within the Ecclesiastical Province of East Prussia was incorporated, then to 1945 in the parish of Prussian Holland ( Pasłęk Polish).

Today, the population of Święty Gaj majority of Catholic denomination. The church, now the Św. Wojciech is dedicated, is also now a branch church of the parish in Kwietniewo, but ( Christburg ) belongs to the deanery in the Diocese of Elbing Dzierzgoń of the Catholic Church in Poland. In Święty Gaj living evangelical Christians belong to the Church community in Pasłęk ( Prussian Holland), which is a branch church of the parish in Ostróda ( Osterode in East Prussia ). It is in the Diocese of the Evangelical - Augsburg Church Mazury in Poland.
