Swissôtel The Stamford

Swissôtel The Stamford in the city center of Singapore is at a height of 226 meters and 73 storeys the tallest hotel in Southeast Asia and the fourth tallest hotel in the world (as of end of 2008). It is the seventh tallest building in Singapore, and is located above City Hall MRT metro station at Raffles City complex. The hotel has 1263 rooms, more than any other hotels in Singapore.

At its opening in 1986 it was called the Westin Stamford and was the tallest hotel in the world. In 2001, it was accompanied by its sister hotel Fairmont Singapore (formerly Raffles The Plaza), which is located in the same complex, renovated.

Since a change in management in 2001, originally managed by Starwood Hotels and Resorts Hotels are now operated by Raffles International. Since 2006, the service area has been transformed in the underground of the hotel to a shopping mall which now has some 50 additional stores in Raffles City, also known as Raffles Marketplace.

The Food and Beverage Outlets from Swissôtel The Stamford and Fairmont Singapore are both operated by the same management. In the Equinox Complex between the 69th and 71st floor there are several bars and restaurants.

Swissôtel The Stamford is also known for its conference facilities, in which, for example, was carried out the 117th IOC Session in 2005. Ever since the first Singapore Grand Prix in September 2008, the hotel is also the first choice for Formula 1 teams and during the Grand Prix; the hotel is right on the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Since 1987 takes place at the Swissôtel Vertical Marathon each year to the place. It is true that to defeat 1336 steps up to the 73rd floor in no time. The record from 2008 is 52 seconds in 6 minutes.
