Sydney Peace Prize

The Sydney Peace Prize (also Sydney Peace Prize ) is awarded by the Sydney Peace Foundation, an organization at the University of Sydney. The price is the only international peace prize awarded in Australia. The city of Sydney is one of the most important sponsors of this price.

Each year makes the seven -member jury, are included in the economic, media, academic and social interests, to promote justice through within three months of a picture of the efforts of the nominees, peace. The award may be presented to an organization or a person then.

In the past, the jury met already controversial decisions made. An example is the awarding of the prize to Hanan Ashrawi is in 2003. Due to her work as a Palestinian spokesperson in the Middle East conflict, it came time for protests.

Award winners

Gold Medal for Peace and Justice

The Sydney Peace Foundation has awarded four times so far the gold medal for peace and justice. Prize winners were Nelson Mandela, the 14th Dalai Lama, Daisaku Ikeda and 2011 Julian Assange.
