Sylvano Bussotti

Sylvano Bussotti (born 1 October 1931 in Florence ) is an Italian composer and artist.

Life

Bussotti had first violin lessons at Margherita Castellani and studied at the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini counterpoint with Roberto Lupi and piano with Luigi Dallapiccola. As a result of the war, he finished his studies without a degree.

In a self-paced study, he learned from 1949 to 1956 and then took private composition lessons with Max German in Paris. He learned there also Pierre Boulez and Heinz- Klaus Metzger know, who introduced him at the Darmstadt Summer Courses in 1958 with John Cage.

1965 and 1966 he stayed at the invitation of the Rockefeller Foundation in the United States. He has won several awards in the 1960s in Italy ( for example, in 1967 at the Venice Biennale ) and was living in 1972 at the invitation of DAAD for a year in Berlin. From 1975 to 1983 he was artistic director of the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. In the late 1980s he was music director of the Venice Biennale.

As a composer Bussotti the avant-garde is attributable. The compositions, sometimes in graphic notation, often place great demands on the performer. His works for the stage ( to 1976 ) became known as Bussottioperaballet, he was not only a composer but also a director and often set and costume designer and choreographer.

In addition to his extensive compositional work is Bussotti operated also as a writer, painter and graphic artist, sculptor, photographer and filmmaker.
