Synapsis ilicifolia

Synapsis ilicifolia is the only species of the plant genus Synapsis, and belongs to the only four genera comprehensive family Schlegeliaceae.

Description

Synapsis ilicifolia is an upright growing tree with a rounded base and without fur. The leaves are opposite, are stammbürtig and stalked. The leaf blade is ovate or elliptic, leathery, pointed forward and occupied the edge in four to six spines, between the spines of the edge is slightly curved.

The flowers are distinctly stalked. Your cup is five-piece, bell-shaped, cup-shaped, the lobes are reduced to short, leathery teeth. The crown is tubular, purple to mauve, the five Kronlappen are arranged into two lips. The individual lobes are nearly equal, the corolla tube is straight, elongated and narrow and widens towards the coronary band. The four stamens are not beyond the crown. The ovary is ovoid, the scar is bilobed.

The fruit is a berry that contains a plurality of indented seeds.

Occurrence

The species is widespread endemic in eastern Cuba and is found only in the former Oriente province.
