Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Bijnor

The Eparchy of Bijnor (Latin: Eparchia Biinorensis ) is an eparchy of the united with the Roman Catholic Church Syro -Malabar church in India. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Agra.

The eparchy consists of the districts of Bijnor (excluding Dhampur ), Pauri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, Tehri Garhwal, Chamoli, Uttarkashi and parts of Haridwar.

History

On March 23, 1972, the Apostolic Exarchate Bijnor was established by the papal bull beatorum Apostolorum from areas of the diocese of Meerut and handed over to the care of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate. On February 26, 1977, the survey was conducted for the eparchy by the papal bull Quae cum Romano Pontificatu. First bishop was the former Exarch Gratian Mundadan.
