Szczerbice

Szczerbice ( German: Sczyrbitz ) is a village in the rural community Gaszowice ( Gaschowitz ) in the powiat Rybnicki. The place is located in Silesia in southern Poland, about 22 kilometers from the Czech border. Szczerbice has approximately 2.000 inhabitants and an area of 4.05 km ². The nearest large town, the county seat Rybnik is located about four kilometers to the east. Szczerbice situated at an altitude of 260 meters above sea level.

History

The place Szczerbice is mentioned in 1410 for the first time in a document. He wore many names throughout history. Until 1679 he was largely under the name Szierbic known until 1743 until Sczyrbitz interspersed among the Germanized name Sczirbitz and Scerbitz. After the plebiscite in Upper Silesia, the city fell to Poland in 1922 and has since been known, except for the duration of the occupation during the Second World War, Szczerbice. Szczerbice was merged with the place Solarnia.

Sports

The place has a sports and football club called Klub Sportowy Szczerbice.
