History

In the mid-18th century, the administrative center was built for the goods of the Duke Miklós Esterházy in Szentlőrinc. Its baroque palace, built 1696-1717 and later extended several times, is located on the sprawling church square ( Templom tér ). The Catholic rectory and the Baroque church were around 1718 - shortly after the castle - complete. The church stands today because of their special construction under monument protection, but their establishment dates from the 19th century.

The Koncz - Brantner - house in the Munkácsy Mihály utca was built in the 18th century and was the home of the estate manager of the Esterházy family. Today it houses a large, publicly accessible private collection. Furthermore, the city has a new, comprehensive history museum ( in downtown Passage ) where finds of archeology and themes of geography and ethnology are issued.

Events

The church festival ( fair ) begins each year on 10 August. The " Lawrence Days" include numerous cultural events and a street ball. Regularly also an agricultural fair takes place, the "Day of the farmers " ( Gazdanapok ). The fair is the most important agricultural event of Baranya County.

The beach of the resort is loaded with 36 ° C hot thermal water.
