Donji Miholjac

Donji Miholjac ( dt date: Under - Miholtz ) is a town in Slavonia, Croatia, only 5 km from the Drau ( Osijek - Baranja ). The population is according to the census as the year 2011 9.491 people.

History

The city has been inhabited since the early days, as proven by archaeological finds. First, the Illyrian Andizeten populated the place for the following period Roman settlement traces have been found. The Roman settlement was called Mariniana. After the barbarian invasions first by the Avars settled down, then increasingly the Croats. In the 10th century the town came to the Kingdom of Croatia. In the 11th century, the area around the city came under more and more Hungarian influence.
