Tabātabāei House

The Khaneh Tabatabaei ( also: Hane -ye ʾ ī tabataba ( " ʾ ī tabataba House" ), Persian خانه طباطباییها ) is a historic town house in the oasis city of Kashan in Isfahan province, Iran. Builder and owner was the rich Qajar Kaufmann " Seyyed Ja'far Tabatabaei ".

History

The building was built in 1834. His architect was Ustad Ali Maryam, who later also the Khaneh Borudjerdi ( 1857). At the time of establishment of the " Khaneh Borudjerdi " the " Khaneh Tabatabaei " was declared the architectural standard for beauty, for the " Borudjerdi " family was keen to marry into the " Tabatabaei " family. Under the condition that for the bride to build an house, that would be just as nice as the built by Ustad Ali Maryam for Tabatabaeis, the marriage could be consummated, which it did so.

The complex surrounds four courtyards, contains fine wall paintings and features elegant stained glass windows and a variety of classic traditional elements of the culture of the residence time. The strangers accessible outer part is called " Biruni " and the private, purely residential purposes serving and therefore inaccessible inner part, the term " Andaruni ".
